Johnny Protestant LLC operates americanagecko.com under the Americana Gecko™ name. This Cookie Policy explains how Americana Gecko uses cookies and similar technologies on the website. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small files that websites save on your device. They can keep a site secure, remember choices, load features, and help measure visits. Similar tools include pixels and local storage.
Some technologies are set directly by this website. Others are set by service providers whose features appear on the website.
2. Technologies currently used
Essential and security technologies
WordPress.com and Jetpack use technical data and cookies to deliver and secure the website and operate forms. Akismet processes technical data to screen comments and forms for spam. Complianz stores the visitor’s privacy choices and controls optional analytics. Logged-in administrators also receive WordPress login and settings cookies.
These technologies are necessary for the relevant service to function and cannot always be disabled through a website preference tool.
Comment preferences and interaction features
If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in convenience cookies so you do not need to enter them again later. WordPress normally keeps these optional comment cookies for one year. WordPress.com or Jetpack may also use technologies for comment Likes, reply notifications, and post or comment subscriptions when you choose those features. These technologies are triggered by your comment choices or actions and are separate from the optional Analytics setting.
Audience measurement
Jetpack Stats and Google Analytics 4 measure page views and related technical information to help us understand which pages are visited and how the website performs. They may process page URLs, referring pages, browser and device information, approximate location, and cookie or similar-technology identifiers. Google Analytics may use cookies such as _ga to distinguish visits. Google states that it uses IP addresses during collection for functions such as coarse location and spam detection, does not associate raw IP addresses with user identifiers, and discards raw IP addresses after use. These services are treated as optional Analytics in the website’s privacy controls. See Automattic’s Cookie Policy, Jetpack’s cookie information, and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Gravatar and other third-party features
When comments are displayed, Gravatar may receive a hashed version of a commenter’s email address and may load a profile image from Automattic’s systems. Future articles may contain embedded video, maps, social posts, or other third-party content. Those providers may use their own cookies or similar technologies when the feature loads.
3. Advertising technologies
Americana Gecko does not currently use cookies for behavioral advertising or cross-site ad targeting. We will update this policy and the website’s consent controls before activating a materially different tracking service.
4. How long technologies remain
Some cookies last only for a browser session. Others remain for a set period so a preference or measurement can be recognized later. Retention varies by purpose and provider and may change when a service is updated.
Complianz is configured to remember a consent decision for up to 365 days, unless you delete the related cookie or change your choice sooner. Optional comment convenience cookies normally last for one year.
For current WordPress.com and Jetpack cookie details, see Automattic’s Cookie Policy and Jetpack’s cookie information.
5. Your controls
Most browsers let you block, delete, or limit cookies through their privacy settings. Blocking essential technologies can prevent forms, comments, login functions, or other features from working properly.
Privacy controls vary by location and applicable law. Where a consent banner appears, it lets you Accept, Reject, or Manage choices for optional technologies. Essential technologies remain active because the site cannot operate securely without them. You can review or change available choices later using the site-wide Manage consent control when it is available. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings.
Where supported by our consent tool, Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signals are treated as a request to refuse optional Analytics. Your browser can separately block or delete cookies, although blocking essential technologies may prevent forms, comments, login functions, or other features from working.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when technologies, providers, or legal requirements change. The current version will remain posted here with its effective date.
7. Contact
Questions about this Cookie Policy may be submitted through the Contact page.
